Yesterday, April 19, legendary MC and
Gang Starr co-founder Keith "
Guru" Elam passed away after a lengthy struggle with cancer. The Northeastern icon was 43 years of age at the time of his death, which came on the heels of his February 28, cardiac arrest and subsequent coma.
Alongside his Gang Starr partner, heavyweight DJ/producer
DJ Premier, Guru crafted such classic albums as '88's
No More Mr. Nice Guy and its '98's
Moment of Truth. His most recent release was 2009 solo album
Guru 8.0: Lost and Found.
Those who wish to honor the artist's memory can donate to his Each One Counts foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to easing the suffering of children with terminal and chronic illnesses.
ed: According to a newly-released letter, the artist's family is "...not aware of any foundations established by GURU."
