Regular readers know I have a tendency to post artists from my hometown Boston - what can I say, I go hard for my city. Luckily, I don't have to issue a homer disclaimer on the new
REKS cut "
This or That" (no relation to this "
This or That" or, thank god, that "
This or That"). Coming off his upcoming "Teaser" EP, this record came with a disclaimer from producer
Statik Selektah: "this is NOT for the radio... and might offend some. oh well."
Talk about a guaranteed way to get me to listen to a song. So what's so offensive about "This or That"? How does "Rihanna spreads gonorrhea, Chris Brown beats the blacks on her peepers" sound? On the Eminem scale that's not particularly offensive, but the message is sent. On this one REKS is rhyming hard and he doesn't particularly give a fuck who catches feelings. Dope. Boston stand up.
By the way, I'm not quite sure what to make of the REKS photo that Statik sent along for this one. It's hard to imagine that they had a photo shoot and the photographer said, "ok, go stand in front of that Japanese looking painting and smoke, and if you could check your two-way at the same time that'd be great." Oh well.
