Reflection Eternal Drop Dopest Video “In This World” (Watch!)

Posted by Nathan S. on 03/08/10 | Filed under Videos, Talib Kweli, Reflection Eternal

Reflection Eternal, a.k.a. Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek, are back after a nearly decade-long hiatus, and they're bringing some dope new music with them. Following the release of the album's lead single "In This World" comes the visual accompaniment, a dark-yet-light affair that's everything you'd expect from the dynamic duo. Plus Kweli pimps the hell out of his Jay-Z endorsement, so he's got that going for him.

The Refined Take:

1) If you know Kweli you know it's no coincidence that the globe is turned to Africa throughout the video. There things aren't coincidences.

2) If they really wanted to take this video to the next level they should of had the corner boy played by Bodie from "The Wire". Frighteningly, I know my fellow "Wire" heads were thinking the exact same thing, plus they wanted the bum played by Bubbles. If none of this makes any sense to you, you really need to watch "the Wire". Just do it.

3) I love how they shamelessly extended Jay-Z's endorsement of Talib Kweli: "If lyrics sold, truth be told, I'd probably be, lyrically Talib Kweli." Of course, regular readers know that lyricism is actually exponentially more profitable. Hey, if Hova said he wanted to be me, I'd play the f*ck out of that sample too.

4) Visually I'm really digging this video. It's nothing revolutionary (pun quasi-intended), but the darkness punctuated by flashes of light looks ill. Respect.

5) Considering "Train of Thought" is one of my favorite albums of all-time (Kanye voice..."of all-time!") I couldn't possibly be more stoked about the release of "Revolutions per Minute", which is now due to drop on April 20. Mark your calendars. And if you want to download "In This World", I got ya.
