Don't look now, but quality music is making a comeback, at least according to the thousands of adoring fans who packed Los Angeles' Wilten Theater Friday to watch old-school meets new-school soul man
Raphael Saadiq throw down a blistering set that included one of the better live bands you'll ever see, memorable performances from his backup singers and, of course, plenty of sweat soaked sex-appeal from Saadiq himself.
Saadiq has obviously been studying tape of performances from r&b legends like James Brown and Chuck Berry because his stage show was instant vintage, displaying an impeccably confident showmanship that fit perfectly with the retro-soul flavor is his new album "
The Way I See It". Of course the crowd wouldn't have left happy without hearing some classics from the Saadiq catalog and the former Tony! Toni! Tone! frontman obliged, bringing the house down with renditions of his slow jam for the ages "Anniversary" and, my personal favorite, "You Should Be Here".
If a picture says a thousands words, a video says a million. Here's some exclusive video of Saadiq performing his hit single "100 Yard Dash" on the Wiltern stage. Enjoy.
In other words, if you have the chance to see Saadiq live, just do it. Yes, it really is that simple. For a complete list of upcoming tour dates, click
