Now that Michael Jackson is no longer among us,
R. Kelly is easily the most fascinating artist alive. The man's undeniably crazy - unless you think leaving a sold out concert to drive to
McDonald's in a golf cart and serve customers is normal - but he's also undeniably talented, a juxtaposition that means we can't dismiss him as
just balls crazy. Case in point, his new single "
Shut Up", a track so awesomely crazy I'm going to have to break it down outline style.
1) That cover above is from Kells upcoming book, "Soula Coaster: The Diary of Me", which is just an amazing title for a book. Just in case you were still unclear who the book was about by the pic and R. Kelly's name on it, he throws in a "Diary of Me". Brilliant .
2) Love that first verse where he rocks the "
Trapped in the Closet I'm Going to Sing Words As They Pop Into My Head, Even If They Don't Rhyme or Make Any Real Sense" style.
3) Oh shit! R&B beef! Shots fired at Usher in the second verse! "After all these hits and melodies and memories, you compare me to someone else?
O.M.G.”
4) "Shut Up" is off Robert Sylvester Kelly's upcoming album "Black Panties," which would be a shocking title if the man didn't once name an album "Chocolate Factory".
In summary, thank you R. Kelly. Every day with new music from you is just a little more awesome.
