The end of the year results are in and it's official: Pitbull's video for "I Know You Want Me" is the most popular music video of the year. Sure clips like Susan Boyle's breakthrough performance, the New Moon Trailer and a video featuring two girls and one cup (if you don't know what I'm talking about considered yourself lucky) got more total views, but in terms of pure musical cinematography Pit is the clear winner, beating out even the usually unstoppable Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. In his honor, here's goes a belated Refined Take on the video of the year.
The Refined Take:
1) The fact that this video beat out New Moon, Miley and Taylor Swift can only mean one thing: horny teenage boys will watch a video more times than romantically inclined teenage girls. Never underestimate the appeal of hot women, ever.
2) You know Kanye's having a f**king aneurysm right now. Here's what I'm sure he's saying: "I made some of the most artistically creative and visually arresting videos of the year, and this dude dances with some video girls in front of a white screen and people like him more!!!!! Aaaahhhhhh!!! I'm so angry I want to shave my girlfriend's head!" That may not be a verbatim quote, but you know that's what he's thinking.
3) Speaking of which, some label bosses also have to be pretty pissed that they spent millions on a music video and then Pit just showed up with some hot women and a white background and beat them all. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make a video everyone wants to watch.
4) Seriously, what was the pitch for this video?
Director: "Ok Pitbull, here's what I was thinking. You're in a helicopter flying over a jungle, you parachute out, land in a Lamborghini full of diamonds and then buy champagne at a club."
Pitbull: "Actually, I was thinking some models could just fondle me for three minutes."
Director: "Brilliant! We're going with that!"
5) While all the women in this video are absolutely stunning, it has to be pointed out that Pit seems to have a little bit of a MILF fascination going on (check out the stewardess, who's at least 30). In the real world 30's not old at all, but in the video world's it's ancient. Far be it for me to tell Pitbull how old the stewardess humping his leg should be. To each man his own.
