Almost a year ago to the day I
first wrote about sites charging artists for posts (surprise, surprise) the fuckery hasn't stopped and artists keep sending me emails. Here's why this shit infuriates me. One, I know literally hundreds of struggling artists, I count some of them as good friends, and the thought of them getting essentially scammed for their rent money pisses me off. And two, when news of "Pay For Post" leaks it makes all the honest sites guilty by association - like how everyone know assumes every baseball player does steroids. Fuck that.
For the record, artists have to make their own decisions. I'm not going to tell you what to do and not to do - except for telling you to stop that
Pause Flow, stop that shit - but I will throw in my unsolicited two cents. Paying for a post is almost never worth it. Not only because the boost, if any, from one post isn't worth a few hundred dollars but because artists get posted all the time on major sites for free. RefinedHype and
the mothership have never taken money for a post and never will, and the same goes for a lot of other dope, highly influential sites.
Per request of the artists who sent them I've blacked out any identifying details. If you've got a "Pay For Post" email and you'd like to see it posted, feel free to pass it along (nathan@refinedhype.com).
