Who would’ve known that the Namco arcade game Pac-Man would become iconic enough to have its own sneaker decades later? Well months after Pac-Man’s 30 year-anniversary and Japanese sneaker manufacturer MADFOOT! has created a sneaker inspired by the popular arcade game.
Titled the “Mad Pac-Man,” the collection of sneakers includes both an all-black high-top sneaker and also an all-white version. Both sneakers are dotted with miniature Pac-Man’s and different colored ghosts. The tongue of each sneaker features either the yellow Pac-Man or a red, chaser ghost. And on the back of each sneaker is the ever so important, bonus-wielding bunch of cherries.
Upon hearing about a Pac-Man inspired sneaker one would probably be a little hesitant about its looks, but thankfully MADFOOT! was able to create a Pac-Man sneaker that didn’t come across as cheesy looking. In fact, the “Mad Pac-Man” is actually quite wearable in my opinion. And it’s a major plus if you actually played Pac-Man during its heyday…that kind of gives the sneaker a nice, emotional connection.
I’m not completely sold on the fat laces and the extremely rounded toe of the “Mad Pac-Man.” It kind of gives it a juvenile look, but it is something that can be overlooked if you’re really feeling the sneaker.
The “Mad Pac-Man” collection will be sold in
MADFOOT! retailers overseas and through
Eproze.com beginning August of this year.
