Slow day for new music, so I thought I'd go back to a track that dropped earlier but I didn't have time to post. If you haven't listened to
Royce da 5'9's new single, "
On the Boulevard", you need to. Like now. In some ways it might just be the best song he's ever done.
I like to listen to Royce lose his goddamn mind as much as the next man, I must have listened to "
Second Place" five times in a row, but after a while his "I'm going to make every line as shocking as possible" flow can become ironically predictable and dull. But "Boulevard" shows a different side of Royce, one that's thoughtful, lyrical and as dedicated to lifting people up through music as he is dedicated to wildin' the fuck out. Throw in yet another stellar beat from
Nottz and, ultimately, this might earn more time in my iPod than any Royce song previously. Props.
Off the Slaughterhouse alum's upcoming solo album, "Success Is Certain", dropping August. (And yes, it looks like I'm
still all warm and fuzzy inside.)
