As anyone who grew up in a small town - or listens to Big K.R.I.T.'s music - knows, when one person from the community makes it, the entire town makes it. That's exactly the situation for K.R.I.T., who's using his soulful southern flow to help put his hometown of Meridian, MS, on the map. In the latest edition of our My City series, K.R.I.T. talks about the similarities between himself and Boobie Miles, why he's a hometown here and explains it's not hard to find him. Just look on 300 block.

Refined Hype: Your song "Hometown Hero" heavily references the movie "Friday Night Lights". Are their similarities between your hometown and Odessa, Texas, the city where "Friday Night Lights" takes place?

Big K.R.I.T.: You could say that I'm from a small town where education and sports are the focal point. A place where people have big dreams but rarely get to live them out. Most people that are born there never leave. I felt like the snippet in the beginning epitomized my determination to succeed in the music industry

Refined Hype:What makes you a hometown hero? Are you one?

Big K.R.I.T.: In my mind I am hometown hero. I've experience a lot obstacles just to make music at this level. I like to think I'm living proof that Mississippi has some real subject matter.

Refined Hype: Where do you go to get inspired?

Big K.R.I.T.: I try to draw inspiration from personal experience. It's important to add feeling and soul to all of my music. I try recreate the same timeless music as artists in the '60s and '70s.

Refined Hype: If I'm rolling through your city, where can I find you?

Big K.R.I.T.: Strictly on 30th Avenue, or what we like to call 300blk. That is the block I'm from and where I was raised. I feel like it's important to never forget where I came from.

Refined Hype: Last words?

Big K.R.I.T.: I've got a new project "Krit Wuz Here" dropping April 5th and presented by Cinematic Music Group. I also have a group called "The Alumni" with Big Sant (pronounced SUNT), a artist on my label Multi Records.
