Regular readers know I like to keep things pretty light around here - "Fails of the Week" is not exactly some deep shit - but every so often I do have to get serious, so let me seriously say that both Murs and Aesop Rock are two of my hip-hop heroes, so when they join forces for a track like "Varsity Blues 2", I don't mind heading over to the dark side.
While I prefer Aesop on the mic, his production work has been getting consistently better, and on "Varsity Blues 2" his beat's complex without becoming overwhelming, the perfect stage for Murs to drop some of the more sober rhymes we've heard from the man since his Def Jux days. With a title track like this leading things off, I'll be copping "Varsity Blues 2" the album as soon as it drops.
"Tendencies are so suicidal, talkin bullets out the chamber with each of my recitals." Yeah, it's like that.
