Getting in just under the wire, Mikkey Halsted comes through with a Posse Cut of the Year nominee (goddamnit, that totally should have been a RF Awards category) in the form of "Runnin' My City", a good old fashioned posse cut featuring Bun B, Killer Mike, Crooked I, Chip Tha Ripper, Mistah F.A.B. & Gillie Da Kid. Gillie's obviously the Chris Bosh of this situation, right?

Anyway, while I'm certainly forgetting some dopeness that's come in the last 365 or so days, "Runnin My City" immediately strikes me as one of the best posse cuts of the year. That SC beat is dope (check the old school Weezy sample) without becoming overwhelming, and there's nothing but top flights lyricism from top to bottom. Dopeness. This alone might be enough to get me to cop Mikkey's upcoming album, "The Dark Room", when it drops December 21.
