And just like that
Mayday becomes my number one pick for "do you get how dope these guys are? I mean really?" It's the type of pick that doesn't happen overnight. About
a year ago they were at "hey, these guys are pretty dope" status. Then they moved up to a "damn, these guys are really dope" level when they helped deliver
the best track on Tech N9ne's last album. And then they dropped their new release, "
Internal Wars" and boom, I'm now prepared to argue that they're one of the best groups doing it.
Mayday are able to make live instrument hip-hop without succumbing to the "hey look at us, we're making live instrument hip-hop!" trap so many other groups fall victim to, and by combining group emcees
BernBiz and
Wrekonize with Dead Prez vet
M1 and Boston emcee
REKS, the mic skills more than match the beat.
I don't know what to tell you, if you don't think this is dope we're not living on the same planet. I'm official stoked for the release of Mayday's
Strange Music debut "Take Me To Your Leader".
