Really? You’re Going to Hate on Mac Miller’s “Jerry’s Record Store”? Really? (Listen & Download)

The whole "hating" concept is more often not a way for rappers to avoid legitimate criticism, but I've seen more outright hate directed at Mac Miller than any rapper I can remember. Some of it is white-on-white hate, some of it is misguided "Golden Era" shit, some of it is just outright jealousy, but I won't hesitate to defend Mac to the fullest.

I'm not saying Mac's the dopest rapper alive - on a purely emcee level he's not even top 25 - or even that you have to like his music, but all that anti-Miller anger is misguided. Yes, he's white and suburban, but he raps about being white and suburban. What, you'd rather have him lie and act hard? And as long as a white suburban kid's going to be a famous rapper, isn't your best case scenario that they make records like "Jerry's Record Store"? Isn't this what the hip-hop heads want? Famous rappers who rap about record stores instead of flashy cars and women?

So yeah, ultimately I don't personally spend a lot of time with Mac on rotation in my headphones. But I do think all the hate directed his way is ridiculous - now feel free to express your hatred for me writing this in the comments below.
