Lupe Fiasco Confirms “What You Want” is “Lasers” Single (Listen & Download)

Lupe Fiasco
With anticipation for Lupe's upcoming album "Lasers" reaching a fever pitch everything with the word "Fiasco" attached to it is being touted as a "Lasers" leak, even when it's not (see "Lean"). Not today. The Lupester himself confirmed today that "What You Want" is the second official single from the much hyped album ("I'm Beaming" was the first). Let the debate and speculation begin.

So what does "What You Want" say about how good or bad "Lasers" will be? Um...I'm afraid to say this, but on "What U Want" appears to be pretty blatantly ripping off Kid Cudi's style, right now to the slow, half-sun rhyme style. Why would Lupe, one of the most original emcees hip-hop has ever seen, cop another dude's style like this? You got me. If I remember correctly Lupe doesn't smoke up; maybe things have changed in the inhale department.

UPDATE: Lupe now says this is an "unfinished" version of the song, although unless by "finishing" he means writing a completely different song I'm not sure it changes my opinion much.

^^ I feel that...but the direction hes going for is a more laid back cudi-esque style.

Is it good? Eh...we'll see.

@DivaBaby I have to disagree. Lupe was doing experimately, way left hip-hop way before Cudi, but his rhyme style on this is obviously Cudi-esque, which is what confuses me. Why copy a clearly inferior rappers style.

And that was more of a Lupe compliment than a Cudi diss.

I can't listen to this song. I listened to about 30 seconds, but everybody's voice is not cut out for sing-rapping. Kanye and Pharrell can do it, but that doesn't every other rapper has to.
