If you're like me you're not going to see the teen vampire flick "New Moon", nor were you planning on listening to the soundtrack...except Lupe Fiasco's contribution. Lupe Fiasco is back with his new cut "Solar Midnite", by far Lupe's most hard rock track to date, and after his Jimi Hendrix inspired "Fire" it looks like the trend of Lupe rockin out might be here to stay.

Actually, it's probably best to let Lupe explain:

"Solar Midnite is my first commercial release that I actually produced as well as wrote. The New Moon team asked me if I could do a song specifically for the film. They invited me to an early screening of the unfinished film from which I pulled different elements that I thought would translate into a great song. I pulled in vocalist and bassist Graham Burris and acclaimed musician Matt Nelson to help fill it out my vision musically and “joila” Solar Midnite was born. The song basically deals with the chaotic love story that takes place between the characters. It’s more on the rock side of my musical catalog and comes straight from my die hard fanhood of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Keidis, one of my FAVORITE RAPPERS."

Wow, did not see the "Anthony Keidis is one of my favorite rappers" coming. Although from Lupe you always have to expect the unexpected.

Gotta love Lupe... he's so damn fvckin interesting!!! That might seem not a big deal, but for a rapper, it's really refreshing to see so much dimensions from his music to his preferences (RHCP and Keidis! It's better being that I always thought Keidis is worth callin a rapper! :p)

Couldn't agree more FredRico. Other than Andre 3K, it's hard to think of another artist who's consistently pushing boundaries like Lupe. While I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the rock stuff, I definitely respect him for taking the chance.
