Remember the other week when RefinedHype nation was deep
in a discussion about how while
Lupe Fiasco is one of the best lyricists alive, he doesn't seem capable of running his career? Yeah, nothing's changed. Not only did he officially start pushing out his new song "
Go to Sleep" on Saturday morning - which in the music industry is unheard of, you know, because everyone in the music industry is asleep and hungover on Saturday morning - but he's apparently switching focus from the oft-delayed "Lasers" onto a new album called "
Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album", which also doesn't have a release date. Um....ok, then.
Still, we hear so little new Lupe I'm going to try not to complain (too much). The beat, from enigmatically named producer
1500 or Nothin, crafts an Ambien-soaked beat that Lupe responds to with equally sleep verses that, once again, show the man's got some of the best pen games in the business: "Stationed in Antartica, the coldest nigga alive / know it's Armageddon...before you drive you gotta wipe locusts off your eyes / but I'm warmin up, oceans is on the rise." Goddamn Lupe, why can't we get more of this?
