Lupe Fiasco Flips Ross’ Banger, Drops “B.M.F. (Building Minds Faster)” (Listen & Download)

While the controversy swirls around the petition to release Lupe Fiasco's "Lasers" album, and around the man himself, a brand new Lupe freestyle hit the internets, a distinctly un-banging flip of Rick Ross' ubiquitous track, now titled "B.M.F. (Building Minds Faster)". I'll get to Lupe on a larger level in a moment, but let's address this particular cut in particular first. Disappointing. While the concept's dope, the execution's completely lacking. Lupe may just not have the muscle to drop a flow as heavy as this beat demands, and the lyrics are lacking too. "Your shit meows, by shit aooooooohhhhsssss!!!" Really Lupe? Really?

As for Lupe and the petition, I'm of two minds. Part of me supports the man's refusal to cave into the internets demand for a constant stream of free new music. Bloggers crying about Lupe demand they take down leaks feels a lot like spoiled children crying because their mom won't give them another cookie. On the other hand, like it or not, that's the state of the game right now, and there's no doubt that Lupe hasn't handled his career wisely. While I'll defend "The Cool" to the death as one of the best hip-hop albums ever, since then he's been floundering, firing his entire F&F staff, starting from scratch, and then starting from scratch again. We can't all be Jay. Not everyone's cut out to be a C.E.O.

As long as we're here, we may as well watch Rick Ross do "B.M.F." with The Roots. I can't front, this is sick. Now that's how it's done. Props to Jimmy Fallon for somehow appearing even more white and acjward than usual. Download link and player for the Lupe track are below the video.
