It's been a rough road for fans of Lupe Fiasco who first fell in love with the man's rhymes on his debut album "Food & Liquor". After complaining that Atlantic Records made him sell out on his last album, "Lasers", and then releasing an immediately forgettable new mixtape, "Friend of the People", we haven't had a lot of Fiasco related music to cheer about. And then, out of nowhere, he drops new track "American Terrorist III" and it is, to put it plainly, f**king dope.
For the record, a lot of people are saying this was a leftover track from "Friend of the People", but that's just guesswork. Here's what we do know. The beat is over Kavinsky's "Nightcall", the original "American Terrorist" was on the aforementioned "Food & Liquor", and there's never been an "American Terrorist II". This time around Lupe lays down some of that serious storytelling flow - frankly it's going to take me a few listens to unravel the plot...and that's exactly the kind of depth I'm looking for from Fiasco.
"After this I'm going underground." God how I wish that was true.
