Sure, it probably helps if you get the more specific Christian references in Lecrae's music, but it's no more necessary then knowing exactly what blocks Bun B is talking about when he raps about Houston. There's a true universality to Lecreae's music, and quality that comes up again in his new single "Mayday".
Atypically for me, I really don't have any jokes to make here, "Mayday" is just straight up dope music. That live-instrument driven beat from DJ Khalil and the gospel inspired vocals from Ashton Jones alone make this worth a listen, and some top-shelf emcee work from Big K.R.I.T. and Lecrae only drive the track to the next level.
Well then, it looks like I'll be giving Lecrae's "Gravity" album, which the Twitter portion of RefinedHype Nation says crushes "Church Clothes", a serious listen when it drops on September 4. In the meantime, enjoy...
