I try not to get caught up in the hype machine, this is RefinedHype after all, but to a certain extent it's impossible to talk about hip-hop without talking about some overhyped rappers. Still, I try to give love to emcees you may have never heard of before simply because the music's dope, which is exactly why you've got Lecrae's "Live & Let Live" in your headphones now.
I have no idea if Lecrae is "buzzing", how many YouTube views he has or how many Twitter followers he's pulling. I don't even know where he's from, and in an effort to keep this purely about the music I'm not going to look it up. (Those interested should talk to God Google.) Here's what I do know. Statik Selektah did the beat, it's off Statik's "Population Control" album, coming October 25, and the man can rhyme, especially when he's on some "Used to Love H.E.R." shit. Sometimes, that's all I want.
Stream only per request. Interested parties can cop the single on iTunes here.
