A Hip-Hop mixtape inspired by Paul McCartney? I'll take two please. That's exactly what you can expect when Florida rapper Laws' mixtape titled "Yesterday's Future" is released next week. The project is produced by the legendary J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and takes its cue from the famed Beatles singer with 13 covers of McCartney songs. And prior to next weeks release of the mixtape Laws has leaked the track "Dear Boy".
It's an interesting combination hearing McCartney's vocals paired with a Hip Hop track. It's a combination that could end in disaster when paired with the wrong artist. Can you picture Soulja Boy covering a McCartney song? That's downright frightening. Fortunately though Laws' cover of "Dear Boy" is done quite effortlessly and everything is on point from the production to Laws' vocals. In fact, "Dear Boy" is probably the most pleasant sounding "eff the haters" song I've heard in a minute.
"Yesterday's Future" will be released on Tuesday, May 24 through L-R-G. Also, if you're in the Atlanta area be sure to check out Laws' mixtape release party at the L-R-G Showroom on Monday, May 23rd. Details below.
