Last week we got the ol' "here's a dope track....that won't be on our new album" routine from perpetually fresh North Carolina crew
Kooley High and their track "
Sky View", but today, I'm happy to say, it's nothing but, as Dr. Dre would say, the real deal Holyfield. Attention wack rappers, "
Ya Times Up".
This time around it's entirely a Kooley affair, with emcees
Tab-One, Rapsody and
Charlie Smarts providing the kind of Polaroid flows that will have you "froze like photos", while producer and group member
Foolery provides a mellowed out and scratch-filled beat for the crew to flow over. I've been a supporter of the Kooley movement for a minute now, and this is exactly why.
For more of their unique style be sure to cop their upcoming album "Eastern Standard Time", dropping July 27, and catch them live
at New York City's SOB's on July 28 when they join King Mez, Phil Ade and more for the second edition of the DJBooth showcase. (The first one was so dope it was
covered by the NY Times, by the way. * cue "
Bold & Arrogant" *.)
Big day for
Chris Kattan by the way. I have to imagine this is his first shout out on a hip-hop song.
