King Mez Falls Under ‘The Allure” of Dopeness (Listen & Download, Prod. by J. Cole)

I know a lot of people are going to check out this "The Allure" joint because J. Cole produced it, and that's fine. Cole's a damn good producer, and if a well known name offering up a nice instrumental gets even a few more people to check out a worthy emcee, all the better. But let's just make sure that we don't lost site of the headliner in the glare of the spotlight on Cole.

RefinedHype citizens should need no reminder that King Mez can fucking rap, but for all of you just now hearing the North Carolina native...the man can fucking rap. Behind that quasi-gravel voice is some serious and original lyricism: “Ain’t no need to flow, n*gga. ‘Rain,” says the weatherman / Leave that job to me, pimpin’—flash-flood veteran / Never ride with n*ggas only chill with who they better than / Imaginin’ the crowns on my sisters and my brethren.”

So yeah, I'll take this shit all day, every day. Mez has a new project, "My Everlasting Zeal", due to drop sometime before "Detox". In the meantime, enjoy:
