First and foremost, under the
new rules we're laying down, this would indeed be considered a "freestyle" under the "Pre-Written Freestyle" clause - while
Kendrick Lamar wrote most of these "
Five Fingers of Death" rhymes before he got on the mic with Sway in the Morning, he's spitting them unrehearsed over beats he doesn't know are coming. This is rap without a parachute.
Now that we've got that established, I'd actually love to see this "emcee going in over five different beats" become a regular thing - is there a better test of a rapper's versatility than having to switch styles and flows that quickly? The next time I'm wondering how dope a rapper really is, I'm going to ask myself "could they pass the five different beats test?" Unsurprisingly, Kendrick kills it.
And since this is RefinedHype, let's name every beat Kendrick flows over. If you guys can
name obscure Dilla samples, you can do this. I'll start things off - that last beat is
Metallica's "One". What y'all got?
