First impressions matter, so in no particular order here are my first impressions of Kanye West's latest "Good Sometime After Thursdays" series, "Chain Heavy":
1) That beat's nice, but it's not nearly as complex as past production. (The beat was made by Q-Tip, not Kanye. Tip also says there's a lot more coming, possible even on Jay and Ye's collab album "Watch the Throne". Oh hells yeah.)
2) It's good to Mr. West get deeply political again, but I feel like I've heard those rhymes before. (Yep, Kanye first let them loose during his social media tour, or as the homey Brando prefers to call it, the Kanye West Tour of Egocentricity).
3) Yo Kweli, more tracks like this and less collabs with Gucci Mane please Kweli. Thanks. (For on Talib's work below.)
4) So they finally threw Consequence (a.k.a. the forgotten G.O.O.D. Music member) a bone. Good to see he didn't get entirely left out in the cold, I was starting to worry.
And now the inevitable "who did it best?" portion of the program. Kanye had two verses so the track's automatically weighted in his favor, but for me money this is one of the best Kweli verses we've heard from the Blackstar vet in a minute. From flow to wordplay - "" - Kweli absolutely First 48ed this. Bar for bad, you already know who got my vote.
I expected the beat to be heavier, darker. Maybe even big-budget. Kinda disappointed

@Set_Gecko If you expected a more epic beat, you expected a Kanye beat. That's just not Tip's style.
And good to see RefinedHype agrees with me - Kweli takes the crown!

I was surprised to see this was cut from MBDTF but I see why it was cut. I appreciate Simple beats just as much as I appreciate complexed ones. I personally went with Yeezy but everybody added something, especially Kweli. Speaking of which that Reflections Eternal had some great lines from Kweli, so to me Kweli never went anywhere. But Less songs with Gucci (or better yet No more at all)
