At its best hip-hop isn't that complicated. It's really not. Just take a head nodding beat (from, say, Moe Productions) and get three of the illest young emcees working to rhyme over it. Boom, simple. Ok, fine. While the recipe's not complicated finding the right ingredients is rarer than finding Kreyashawn in a library. So when K. Sparks, Rapsody and Laws get together on "The Show Starts" we're legally obligated to turn the volume up.

When I hear rhyming like this I can't help but do a "who did it best?" poll. Not in the beef/conflict sense, but in the corner cypher sense, with every emcee trying to top the last one. Never forget, at its heart hip-hop is a competitive art form. It's going to be a tight race: Sparks drops the "oh shit!" line of the track with "Joe Jackson with the flow daily, I beat mics," Rapsody's flow is secretly insane and Laws earns bullet points for the "Blackstar" reference.
