So basically John Legend is a part of the Roots now and is serving as their unofficial lead singer. We all win. After contributing two tracks ("Doin' It Again" and "The Fire"), John and the legendary Roots crew also decided to knock out a new track for Levi's Pioneer Sessions series, which I was kind of hoping would suck so I wouldn't be forced to endorse corporate sponsored music, but is actually pretty dope. Both the Nas and Raphael Saadiq tracks were dope, and unsurprisingly "Our Generation" is as well. A cover of underrated soul singer Enrie Hines' track of the same name, "Our Generation" is bursting with old-school funk and, of course, soul.
The track's also the first we've heard from John Legend and The Roots upcoming collabo album "Wake Up!", which, like The Roots recent album "How I Got Over", is pretty much guaranteed to be incredibly dope, and completely depressing. Yeah!
