Jay-Z & Chris Martin Are Bigger Than “Most Kings” (Listen & Download)

Jay-Z
Between his his strangely overshadowed verse on "Monster" and the "Power (Remix)" we've been hearing a lot of new Jay-Z recently, or in the case of the new mixtape joint "Most Kings", new old Jay-Z.

Done in partnership with Chris Martin - the Coldplay frontman Jay would also team up with for "Beach Chair", prompting Kanye to throw a "I thought of working with Coldplay first" tantrum - "Most Kings" was originally recorded during the "Kingdom Come" sessions, but never found a beat and instead spent the last few years floating around before most recently landing on DJ Green Lantern's "Invasion Radio 2K10" mixtape. I'll let Lantern explain further:

“This is my version working with the acapella…I’ve had this since 2006 and it was supposed to be on the "Presidential Invasion" mixtape – that never came out. Then Hov rapped these lyrics over his HP commercial drums, and the acapella went to a few different producers in search of a beat for it. I heard a Timbaland version and I think Just Blaze and a few others had it too. But by the time they made "Beach Chair", I think Jay was over trying to find a beat for "Most Kingz". Then he went to Flex show and the rest is history…”

Whatever the back story, it's a shame this never got the production it deserved. I feel like Jay killed this.

I like it. I'm confused do you not like the production? I think it's pretty good...

Yeah, that was the Lost verse. Which I think is one of the best verses of all time. My expectations were through the roof, but without new exclusive Jay, I'm not really feelin it.

This production also didn't fit these verses. It's a shame they never found a home. On the right song, these verses would make a classic track.

For the record, and I know I was unclear in the write-up, the production here's decent, but it's mixtape production, certainly not the album worthy beat that lyrical work like this deserves. I truly believe that with the right backing this could have been one of Hova's greatest tracks ever. Oh well, it's history now.
