(Editor's Note: In light of this weekend's events, RefinedHype has put together a "Block of Jay Elec". Enjoy.)
To get back to the question we
previously posed, should Jay Elec have signed to
Roc Nation? If the new joint "
Shiny Suit Theory" in any indication, yes. Probably. Maybe. Not only did a suddenly resurgent
Pete Rock (see "
The Joy") throw down an epic beat complete with some nice finishing touches (those applause breaks are brilliant), but his royal Hovaness jumped on the track as well for a solid but oddly mixed verse.
And for the record, I have to assume a lot of people are going to have the same reaction I did. Yes,
The-Dream is on "Shiny Suit" (at least according to Jay Elec's camp he is). That's Mr. Nash after Jay's verse - they just put an effect on his voice to the point where it's almost unrecognizable and sounds like a sample of an old soul record. Why? Doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of having someone on a track? Why didn't they just actually sample an old soul record? I have no idea.
(On a closing note, isn't it a bit of a middle finger for Elec to mention Diddy on a song featuring Jay-Z, shortly after Jay scooped him from Diddy's grasp? Probably not intentional, but still...)
