First, one of
Young Money's most promising talents
Jae Millz has dropped a new mixtape, "
The Flood", and if you're into that booming, Southern styled street lyricism, I guarantee you're going to dig this one. Enjoy.
But, as regular followers of the
RefinedHype's Twitter have probably already figured out, I've got an ulterior motive behind posting this - namely, share site fuckery. For better or worse, share sites like usershare, mediafire, zshare etc. have become an essential part of the online hip-hop game, and while all of them aggravate me to some level (I don't need to find an Adult Friend! Stop harassing me!), I'm willing to live with most of them...except LimeLinx.
Over the past few months I've routinely watched LimeLinx absurdly inflate artists download numbers, which is not only blatantly dishonest, but has had the perverse effect of making legitimate download links look paltry in comparison. For example, as the good folks over at Nah Right
broke down in depth, Jae Millz previous mixtape "The Flood Warning",
according to LimeLinx, received 500,000 downloads on the first day it dropped, a number that's so absurdly high it makes Bernie Madoff's returns looks reasonable in comparison. Absolutely no disrespect to Millz, but, as a small example, he has 75,000 followers
on Twitter. Even if all of those followers were actual hardcore fans (which Twitter users know is also a ridiculous proposition), each and every one would have had to have downloaded "The Flood Warning" seven times in one day to hit that numbers. And that's assuming they all went to the LimeLinx link, and not some other, re-posted link (which again, I guarantee you did not happen).
Now I'm not claiming that Millz is directly changing these numbers, and he's far from the only artist to fall under the LimeLinx spell (I routinely get emails from artists I've never heard of bragging about their 100,000 downloads), but it is the most prominent example of the kind of chicanery LimeLinx is engaging in. And it's also obvious that it's part of
a deliberate plan, not just some programming glitch. It looks like someone finally got the message and turned down the LimeLinx counter for "The Flood", although the 27,000 DLs
it's currently listing (over a 24 hour period) is still very, very suspicious.
The point is, men lie, women lie, and LimeLinx lies like a motherfucker. This needs to stop. I'm no longer downloading anything from that site, and I would highly urge you to do the same. Ok, there. I'm done ranting. On the real, if you're in the mood for some
