J Period Roots In the Ghetto
I was thinking of making today's last post that surprisingly good new Snoop Dogg x Lex Luger x R. Kelly joint, or the incredibly confusing new Ron Artest x Nas record, but in the end I think I'm actually going to just post some really good music instead. I know, imagine that.

J. Period, the dude behind that dope "Illadelph Edition" mixtape, hooked up with the legendary Roots crew for a remix mixalbum to celebrate their Grammy nod for their "Wake Up" album, and one of the highlights is "In the Ghetto", a cut that finds Period flipping both the classic Donnie Hathaway and Eric B. and Rakim joint. Speaking of which, in addition to some lyrical work from Black Thought, Rakim jumps in to contribute a hell of a 16 - plus we get some more than fitting vocals from John Legend.

I really have nothing smart ass to say about this. It's just dope.

Ron Artest isn't on the Nas record at all. He just calls it his song. It's a Nas track that leaked a while back with tags, with slightly altered production and some female vocals tacked on. It's cool. "I'm Nas with incredible music." I heard Nas is working with Large Professor, Alex da Kid and No I.D. for Lost Tapes 2/his next album. Sounds good so far.

And this track here is just flat out dope. No extra words to add. John Legend fits in (surprisingly?) well at the end.

That tolerance/ lactose (lack toast) line was sick!

And yeah, I didn't understand that Ron Artest song either. I guess it's a Queensbridge thing.

@tdotraza I know Ron Ron's not on the track, but I assumed he actually got a new Nas joint for his project (cause of the Queensbridge connection). Thanks for the clarification.

And yes, this is ill.
