Block of Biggie (Pt. 1): J. Period & Ralph McDaniels “Flava in Ya Ear (March 9 Video Remix)”

Posted by Nathan S. on 03/09/10 | Filed under Top Stories, Videos, Notorious B.I.G., J. Period, Block of Biggie

Notorious B.I.G. Christopher Wallace Biggie
Thirteen years ago today the greatest rapper of all-time, the Notorious B.I.G., was waiting at an L.A. intersection when a vehicle pulled up alongside his SUV and opened fire, killing not only one of the best emcees to ever touch a mic, but a father, son and idol. This landmark event is especially poignant for me considering that Fairfax Avenue & Wilshire Blvd., the intersection at which he was killed, is literally only blocks away from my house. I pass through that intersection daily, and each time is a reminder of what could have been. With that in mind, I thought it was only appropriate to drop a Block of Biggie saluting the hip-hop genius that was Christopher Wallace.

Starting off the festivities we have J. Period (co-creator of Nneka's "The Madness" mixtape) and hip-hop video pioneer "Uncle" Ralph McDaniels, who are releasing the fist of their "March 9th" video remix series with "Flava in Ya Ear", a club-shattering blend of the old and new that begs the question: where would hip hop be if B.I.G. were still alive!?

I'm searching for a download of the track now. In the meantime, enjoy and remember.

Excellent mixture right there...The "PSA" beat is one of the best in hip-hop for the 2000s, and mixing it with the verse that introduced Biggie to the masses was pure genius!

P.S. I have a newfound appreciation for "Not from Houston, but I rap a lot". This was 12 years before Rap-A-Lot Records was really known outside the South!

Great call Burmy, that Rap-a-Lot line is seriously underrated. The man was the best for a reason.

On a side note, whatever happened to Craig Mack. I know I could just Wikipedia him, but I'm feeling too lazy. Anyone know? He was pretty ill back in the day.
