Like Soul Khan,
Iron Solomon is a legitimately talented emcee who's now finding his battle rap skills as more of a curse than a blessing. When you can
battle rap this well people only want to hear you battle rap, even if you've got some serious shit to speak on. Solomon won't change those "he's just a battle rappers" views overnight, but records like "
The Empire" are a damn good start.
As Solomon said, “There are 9 million stories in New York City. This is one of mine,” and sure enough he flips "Empire" into a hard-laced and fearless banging exploration of NYC's streets, and
Talib Kweli flashes some of his old school "Train of Thought" flows on the guest verse. Plus they work in that
same "Louder!" that Kanye loves so much, so they've got that going for them.
Stream only per Solomon's request, support via iTunes right now if you're so inclined, and keep an ear out for Iron's upcoming "Monster" album, dropping March 27. Enjoy:
