Smell Like a Rap Star: Hip Hop’s Top Fragrances

Posted by Danielle Harling on 01/30/10 | Filed under Men's Fashion, Women's Fashion, Celebrities

When Hip Hop was created in the 1970’s there is no possible way anyone involved in the genre could have imagined how profitable it would have become years later. These days it’s hard to think of a product a rapper isn’t selling. Hip Hop definitely has the clothing game locked down with brands such as Sean John and RocaWear. And a number of rappers including Ludacris and Diddy have even branched out to the world of selling and marketing liquor brands.

One of the most shocking products to be sold by rappers and Hip Hop moguls would have to be fragrances. Although smelling good is probably the last thing to come to mind when thinking of Hip Hop, RefinedHype.com has highlighted the top fragrances created by Hip Hop’s elite.

It’s kind of hard to picture a Queens-born, multiple gun-shot wielding rapper releasing a fragrance, but late last year rapper 50 Cent did just that when he released his men’s fragrance Power By 50 Cent.

Hip Hop mogul Diddy has his hands in just about everything and among his ventures are fragrances for his clothing line Sean John. Sean John released Unforgivable For Men in 2006 and made a very wise choice months later by releasing the women’s version of the fragrance.

Although Beyonce is far from a rapper, she is one of music’s most well-known talents and she just happens to be married to one of Hip Hop’s most praised rappers, Jay-Z. Beyonce has also jumped on the fragrance bandwagon with her first ever fragrance entitled Heat which will be released early next month.

Correction, I meant to say "but not 9IX." For a long time I couldn't figure out which cologne I liked more between Jay-Z's and Usher's (not mentioned, but he's R&B so...but then again, he's done more successful hip hop than Beyonce). However, Diesel beats all of these, and Common on the cover fit quite nicely. That was definitely a good look for Common.
