This Week in Hip-Hop Sales: YeHova’s Throne Gets Shaky

Kanye and Jay-Z (YeHova) are still very, very firmly on top, but there's no denying that "Watch the Throne" took a very sharp dive this week. After opening up with 430,000 first week sales this week they moved a relatively paltry 175,000 units, and it's only going to do downhill from here. To be clear 175k second week is still top shelf, but it suddenly looks like this may not be the historically epic album I first thought? So what happened? Honestly, I'm not entirely sure, but it feels like "Watch the Throne" was an event, and now that event is over. Or ending anyway.

And now let's turn our attention to the Top 10 Urban Songs with units sold

1. Lil Wayne ft. Drake - She Will (257,000)
2 (6 overall). Bad Meets Evil - Lighters (138,000)
3 (8 overall). Lil Wanye - How to Love (113,000)
4 (10 overall). Nicki Minaj - Super Bass (106,000)
5 (13 overall).Drake - Headlines (84,000)
6 (15overall). Rihanna - Cheers (78,000)
7 (19 overall). Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo - Give Me Everything (68,000)
8 (27 overall). Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis (57,000)
9 (32 overall). Pitbull ft. Marc Anthony - Rain Over Me (48,000)
10 (33 overall) Beyonce - Best I Never Had - (47,000)

1) Fitting considering the brewing maybe possibly beef, it looks like we're headed to a showdown between Jay (and Kanye) and Lil Wayne. Weezy's "Carter IV" drops next week and with two top ten singles fueling it we could be looking at some serious, serious sales. Even with the leak, I don't think there's any doubt that "Carter" will knock "Watch the Throne" out of the top spot, but will it top "WTT"s first week sales? My money's on yes, what say you RefinedHype Nation?

2) For the record, after repeated bitching complaints from folks in the comment section I'm no longer including LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem". (If I did they'd have the number five slot.) It's more of a symbolic statement than anything. I know you don't want them to be "urban", but they get played on every "urban" radio station in the country, so like it or not this is the world we live in.

3) Have to say it, respect due to Mac Miller. Without any major media push he's pushed his new single "Frick Park Market" to the number 34 slot, which it looks like is the highest selling indie rap release in the country. I've really come around on Mac - he can rhyme better than he gets credit for and he's obviously built a very loyal fan base. Honestly, I'm not going to be buying his music, but I totally get why so many other people do.

4) Ok, seriously though rappers. Seriously. Y'all aren't doing shit on the charts - it's about 90% Ke$ha and Justin Bieber right now. I know the end of the summer months are slow people, but come on. The charts reflect America's tastes, and America's tastes are a little too pop for my tastes right now.

5) This week's Mr. Irrelevant Award, given to the song that sits at the absolute bottom of the charts (the number 200 spot), goes to...Waka Flocka's "No Hands". Good lord, it feels like it's been approximately 479 years since that song first dropped.
