RefinedHype Presents the Hip-Hop Fashion Olympics

Posted by Danielle Harling on 02/17/10 | Filed under

With the 2010 Winter Olympics well underway in Vancouver, Canada it seems only right to give out a few medals of our own. As part of the RefinedHype Fashion Olympics, medals will be given out to the rappers who both reign supreme fashion-wise and those who need a lot of help. Gold will be awarded to the rapper whose sense of fashion is on point, silver will be awarded to the rapper who’s in limbo between fly and atrocious, and bronze will be awarded to the rapper who will more than likely remain in fashion hell for the remainder of their career.

Gold - Jay-Z
Jay-Z

Jay-Z wins gold with really little to no effort. It doesn’t matter if he’s wearing a three-piece suit or an all black hoodie and jeans, Jay-Z’s sense of style remains effortless. And he’s one of very few Hip Hop artists who can go from Hip Hop casual to Red Carpet-ready almost seamlessly.

Silver - Pharrell
Pharell

We have to give rapper/producer Pharrell points for individuality, but that’s about all he gets. Pharrell has potential, but then he goes and ruins it by wearing a pair of riding boots or rocking an outdated, goofy-looking mustache.

Bronze- Lil Mama
Lil Mama

It’s quite painful to give our not so impressive bronze medal to a female artist, but Lil Mama really deserves it. Lil Mama attending the MTV Video Music Awards dressed as the Hip Hop Lil’ Bo Peep (complete with BeDazzled pacifier) pretty much put the nail in her fashion coffin.

Every time I see Lil Mama, I figure that she will be broke some day.
EVERY day a different outfit all blinged out.
I sure hope she has an eBay account.
