I was a little skeptical of this song because the first 10 seconds almost lead you to believe that
Freeway was on the verge of releasing his first ever techno track. But then a little bass kicked in and my Hip-Hop meets techno fears were overcome. Still the song isn't really something you'd expect from Freeway mostly because of the production. I mean the song kicks off with
J. Nicholas singing in autotune. When are we gonna give the autotune a rest people?
After about the one-minute mark the song starts to settle and it's just Freeway rapping from that point on. And I think it's safe to say that the man who went from freestyle battles back in the day to a Roc-A-Fella Records deal has still got it. "Rain Dance" of course pales in comparison to Freeway's earlier material, but it's a decent release. I think it could have been a lot better with different production.
"Rain Dance" will be featured on Freeway's upcoming free project titled "Diamonds In The Ruff." The album will feature production from both Jake One and Just Blaze.
