If you were one of
those Yelawolf fans mad that "Radioactive" wasn't fourteen different versions of "
Pop the Trunk" you may not even want to read the next sentence. Yela's joined forces with UK soul singer
Ed Sheeran for a collaborative project. (Ah!!! Me Yelawolf fan, me angry not more hardcore!!!!!!!!) You can have your anger. Me? I'm going to enjoy shit like "
You Don't Know (For Fuck's Sake)".
Anytime the rapper/singer combo thing happens there's some serious potential for the rapper to come off sounding like "I'm just doing this to get chicks," but that's far from what we get on "You Don't Know". Catfish Billy's double time flows, and far more experimental lyricism then he gets credit for, balances perfectly with Sheeran's smooth vocals, and the two actually work together instead of simply appearing on the same track; just check out Sheeran's "
Daddy's Lambo" reference.
That doesn't give Yelawolf a free pass, not all of his experiments work, but right now, I'm digging "You Don't Know". You can consider me officially stoked for the release of the duo's collab EP, "Slumdon Bridge", allegedly coming in February.
