Schadenfreude is a psychological terms used to describe someone who takes pleasure in the failure of others (aka haters), and while I certainly didn't derive any enjoyment from some of the epic f**k ups below, they were too egregious not to be called out. In the latest of an ongoing series that will include the best...or worst...fails of the week from the world of hip-hop, sports, pop culture and beyond, I examine D'Angelo's prostitution arrest, the worst movie ever made, Plies' new ultra-terrible single and more..
D'Angelo Needs to Pay for Lovin
Late Saturday night former r&b/soul icon D'Angleo was arrested in New York City for soliciting a prostitute after offering an undercover cope $40 for oral sex. It's hard for me to put into words how devastating this news is. I will go to my grave arguing that D'Angleo's "Voodoo" is the sexiest r&b album ever made, and to watch the former baby-making music genius stoop so low is crushing. It's like finally meeting Michael Jordan, and then watching as he struggles to even grab the rim. It's a sad, sad, day my friends.
The Worst Movie Ever
Considering that last night Hollywood celebrated some of the finest cinematic masterpieces to ever hit the big screen, I thought it was only appropriate that I threw in my pick for the worst movie ever made, "C Me Dance". I don't want to ruin the trailer for you, so let's just say that if you think it's just another crappy teen dance movie, you are incredibly, incredible wrong. Keep watching, it will be worth it. I promise.
Anti-Drinking Ads Increase Drinking
After years of decline, teen drinking in the U.S. is on the rise, and according to a new study by the Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management anti-drinking ads are one of the primary reasons. "The conventional wisdom from people who design these ads is, 'If we scare people enough it's always going to be a good thing," said Adam Duhachek, the study's lead researcher. "We demonstrate circumstances where they [not only] aren't effective, but they cause a backlash where people actually drink more than if they hadn't been exposed to the ads." Oops.
Plies' "She Got It Made"
It's so easy to hate on Plies that when I heard he had a new single out called "She Got It Made" I thought it'd be too easy a target to write about, but then I heard it. Sweet baby jesus this track is so bad it makes "Bust It Baby" sound like "New York State of Mind". Honestly, if you had told me this was recorded during a high school talent show I would have believed you, and then advised those high schoolers to pursue another career path.
