Fails of the Week: Baskett’s Fumble, JD & Janet’s Reunion, Kid Cudi’s Comedy & More

Posted by Nathan S. on 02/08/10 | Filed under Features, Fails of the Week

Schadenfreude is a psychological terms used to describe someone who takes pleasure in the failure of others (aka haters), and while I certainly didn't derive any enjoyment from some of the epic f**k ups below, they were too egregious not to be called out. In the third of an ongoing series that will include the best...or worst...fails of the week from the world of hip-hop, sports, pop culture and beyond, I examine Hank Baskett's super fumble, Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri's ill-fated reunion, Kid Cudi's new sitcom and more...

Hank Baskett's Onside F**k-Up

In my Super Bowl wrap up I theorized that the Kardashian sisters brought some good luck to any pro-player they...um...gave some sweet, sweet lovin to, but apparently former Playmate Kendra Wilkinson doesn't have the same good mojo. Her husband Hank Baskett (the former Philly Eagles receiver) got put into the Super Bowl on kick coverage, ostensibly because of his "hands". Only problem is he complete fumbled a surprise onside kick. In other words, he messed up the sole reason he even has a job anymore on the biggest stage possible. Oops.

Janet Jermaine & Jermaine Dupri Recording Together
Jermaine Dupri Janet Jackson

Sweet baby Jesus this is a fail on some many levels. First, Jermaine Dupri tattooed "Janet" on his ribs - and then they broke up. Rookie mistake. Second, despite the fact that her last two J.D.-affiliated albums sold like a pork sandwich in Jerusalem, Janet's reportedly back in the studio with the world's richest inch-for-inch producer as she records her new, as yet untitled album. I'm not sure what the proper historical reference is here. We need two people whose collaborations only produced disappointment, yet still insisted on getting back together and trying again. Hmmm...Bush and Cheney invading Iraq after Afghanistan failed miserably? I'm stuck here. Help me out people.

Rudy Gay "Last Second" Shot

Every player dreams of hitting a miracle last second shot, but Grizzlies' point guard Rudy Gay got so caught up in visions of greatness that he launched a desperation half-court heave...with eight seconds left on the clock. To make matters worse the Lakers grabbed the rebound and gave it up to Kobe, who, ironically, nailed a three-point buzzer beater. Way to be the hero Rudy.

Kid Cudi's New Comedy

Kid Cudi's loyal army has been getting their MacBooks in a twist over Cudi's new show "Coming to America", set to debut this Sunday night at 10 p.m. on HBO. Well, today HBO released the pilot episode online and after watching it I just have a few small problems. One, if this is Cudi's "show" than Seinfeld was Newman's show, Cudi barely appears in it. Second, it's not very good, and third, well, see reason number two. Other shows have recovered from bad pilots, and that might still happen here, but the future's not looking bright.
