Fails of the Week: 50’s Album Sales, Young Buck’s Beef & “Obama Black”

Posted by Nathan S. on 02/02/10 | Filed under Features, Fails of the Week

Schadenfreude is a psychological terms used to describe someone who takes pleasure in the failure of others (aka haters), and while I certainly didn't derive any enjoyment from some of the epic f**k ups below, they were too egregious not to be called out. In the latest of an ongoing series that will include the best...or worst...fails of the week from the world of hip-hop, sports, pop culture and beyond, I examine 50's faux album sales, Young Buck's attempts at reigniting G-Unit beef, Urban Outfitters' latest color option "Obama black," and more...

50's "Before I Self Destruct" Album Sales
50 Cent Before I Self Destruct

This week 50's "Before I Self Destruct" was officially granted Gold status by the Recording Industry Association of America, given to any album that sells over 500,000 copies, but there was one problem: according to Soundscan the album's only sold approximately 350,000 copies. The discrepancy comes from the RIAA's accounting: they only looks at the number of units shipped, while Soundscan only looks as units sold, meaning there's about 150,000 copies of "Before I Self Destruct" sitting in warehouses across the country. So did 50 ship all those copies himself to get gold status? I wouldn't put it past him.

Spellcheck? I don't need to spellcheck. I'm f*king exreme.

Young Buck's G-Unit Campaign

After a relative period of silence Young Buck is now going after 50 and the G-Unit clan every chance he gets, probably because he can't release another album without 50's approval since he's still legally under contract with G-Unit. Meaning every time he says something 50 just looks at the contract and laughs, then lights a pile of money on fire. Sorry Buck, that's a win for Mr. Cent.

Urban Outfitter's New "Obama Black"
Urban

Popular hipster clothing chin Urban Outfitters got a little carried away with their labels and started offering customers the option of buying t-shirts in "Obama black", a color that can only be described as gray (see above). After protests they've now removed the label. No word yet on what color their white hoods will come in.

that "Exreme guy is a double fail... it is a photo in a mirror, so in real-life it is a backwards tattoo.
