You know how you know
Emilio Rojas is dope? That's a slightly confusing rhetorical question, don't answer it. You know because of "Rise Above". This is the kind of record that most rappers would hold onto for their albums, or at the very least make the centerpiece of their mixtape, but Emilio? Emilio just drops it because it's Thursday and he's confident he can create 100 records that are even better.
And that's really saying something. Not only does "
Rise Above"s
nVME beat ride the line perfectly between banger and radio ready single, not only does
RacQdolo (nope, I have no idea how to pronounce her name either) kill the hook, but Rojas and
Laws revive some of the stellar double-time flow work we heard on their "
Hold You Down (Remix)". Oh hells yes.
This won't appear on Emilio's upcoming "Breaking Point" album for reasons I outlines in the first paragraph. Enjoy.
(Bonus points to Laws for the "Kenan & Kel" reference.)
