Donnis Goes in for “The Kill” (Listen & Download)

So the homey and Chicago native DJ Z from the mothership came to visit me in L.A. and I thought we'd check out a taping of Jimmy Kimmel's show. It was good times, until that night's musical guest stepped onstage and proceeded to unleash a staggeringly bad set. It was a performance so bad it's now become the go to reference between Z and I for terrible music. That band's name. La Roux.

Now here's where that seemingly random story makes sense. This morning I turned on Donnis' latest unveiling, the legitimately dope "The Kill", and immediately recognized the sample. That's right, it's La Roux. Anyway, despite the fact that the mere mention of La Roux's name makes me cringe, Donnis actually managed to flip their track "In For the Kill" pretty damn well. This is one of the slower flows we've heard from Donnis in a minute, and although he gets introspective at times, it's still mostly the same "fuck you pay me" ATL Brave we've come to expect.

Donnis' "Fashionably Late" mixtape is due to drop any minute now. You'll have it in your sweaty virtual hands asap, I promise.
