Having just dropped their uninspiring (but cleavage soaked) video for "
Doorman",
Pusha T and Malice are back with the long-awaited flick to their largely hailed track "
Popular Demand (Popeyes)", a track that pays tribute to three true American establishments: fried chicken, boobs and huge groups of guys standing in the background of rap videos.
The Refined Take:
1) Like Thanksgiving and starting wars, huge groups of dudes standing in the background of rap videos is an American tradition. I'd like to applaud "Popular Demand" for carrying on this proud tradition, and give a special shout-out to my favorite random dude standing the background..and the winner is...the super tall guy in the beginning with the orange hoodie! He manages to strike that perfect balance between feigned indifference and excitement, no easy feat. Well done tall guy, well done.
2) This is a dope verse from Camron, but I find it fascinating that he's not rocking almost entirely blue clothes, as opposed to his ill-advised pink era. I'm looking forward to the man going through an all lime green phase in five years. You know it's coming.
3) I hope the Clipse are getting paid by Popeyes for this, or at least receiving a liftetime supply of chicken and fries. I haven't seen this much free advertising for a corporation since the Christal obsession a few years ago.
4) More than any other song I've heard so far from "Till the Casket Drops", "Popular Demand" (the song and the video) gives me hope that this new album could actually be pretty damn good. I like the Clipse when they're out amongst the people, not partying in Miami nightclubs with groupies. Stick to the streets gentlemen.
5) In case you missed it the first time around, you can download "Popular Demand"
here, and stay tuned for more from "Till the Casket Drops", set to be released December 8.
