The Clipse Fight for “Freedom” (Video)

The Clipse might seem to have it all, a loyal army of fans, a successful new album ("Till the Casket Drops"), but all the fame and the expectations can feel more like imprisonment than liberation, as the visuals to their new single "Freedom" show. A swagger-free, black and white joint, "Freedom" is a dope look at the other side of the crew that invented the coke rap game.



The Refined Take:

1) Now this is the Clipse I've been waiting for. "Doorman", the "I'm Good Remix", all the previous videos were far too focused on popped bottles and f**ked models, which I'm not against, but I still prefer my Clipse a little darker.

2) "My pen's been poison to family and friendships." For the record, Pusha T's referring to, among other things, the jailing of his former manager, Anthony Gonzales, on drug conspiracy charges. You can either pause the video and read the paper on screen, or just find out more here.

3) Ok, so what's the deal with the super-close ups of Pusha's mouth. It looks like he's got a couple shirt teeth...um...ok? So at some point in the video shoot the director said, "I'm gonna zoom in on your mouth for an uncomfortable and completely pointless close-up, cool?" and Pusha was like, "Yeah, go for it." Really? These are the things I think about.

4) You gotta love that the video flashes to shots of the videos hos that appeared in their flicks when Malice says, "No whore, that wasn't love, we was f**king." I don't know who that girl is, but I guarantee you if she sees this video she's gonna be pissed.

5) Great visuals at the end of the video when we're watching the images in the reflection of the Clipse's sunglasses. Just dopeness.
