Let me get my whining out of the way first. Please start rapping again
Cee-Lo. Please. I respect your versatility, and creativity, but just once I'd like to hear you lay it down on the mic again.
When you do you're one of the best in the game - is that really asking too much?
There. Now that I'm done pleading we can get to the business at hand, namely Cee-Lo's new single "
Georgia". As you've undoubtedly already figured out "Georgia" features nary a rhyme, but what it does feature - old school soul production, an original concept and one of the catchier choruses I've heard in a minute - sound so damn smooth I don't really car about his extended rap retirement. Like Raphael Saadiq's new work, this isn't retro, this is original sou. Damn Cee-Lo, you've still got it.
"Georgia" is the first offering from Mr. Green's upcoming album, "The Lady Killer", set to drop sometime this year...probably...and which, sweet baby jesus willing, will contain at least one rap track. (This is what I was like for the five year period when Mos Def refused to rhyme too. Sorry, I know it's not pretty watching a grown man beg.)
