In the age of copy and paste rappers I get so excited by anything that sounds different that I sometimes (ironically) overhype it. So let me make this clear: when I say
Ced Hughes new project, the "
Margarine EP", I really mean it. And I'm not saying "different" in the "it's not very good but I don't want to be mean sense", I'm saying it in the "thank god someone's making innovative hip-hop" sense. If you're already a fan of the Virginia Beach rapper I don't have to say anything else, but if you're new to the man's work, I highly recommend getting started by spreading some "Margarine" on your headphones...figuratively speaking.
Besides Hughes, the other reason I'm posting this is because it's produced entirely by
Hudson Mohawke, the man responsible for crafting one of my favorite beats of the year ("
The FIFTH"). I'll be honest, I don't know much about Mohawke, but I'm digging what I'm hearing. The man's definitely one to watch out for.
