Could Lil Wayne soon be sharing a cell with T.I.? According to the Associated Press, today Dwayne Carter (a.k.a. Lil Wayne) plead guilty in a Manhattan courtroom to a gun possession charge. Carter reportedly expects to receive up to a year in prison.
The plea stems from a 2007 arrest when police seized a gun found on Cater's tour bus. Officers say they smelled marijuana coming from the bus (which was, frankly, very likely) and when they approached a Loiuis Vitton bag was thrown out the window. Carter's lawyers have vigorously argued that police can't conclusively prove that the gun belonged to Wayne, and that DNA evidence used to do so was faulty, but apparently those arguments weren't strong enough to merit a not guilty plea. Sources now say that a one-year prison sentence is likely.
If Carter indeed receives a significant sentence he'll be imprisoned at the height of his career, a fate that has also befallen fellow superstar rapper T.I., who is currently serving time on gun possession charge as well.
In addition, Carter is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case, which arose from a January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.
