“Behind the Music” Chronicles DMX’ Addiction, Fall From Fame (Full Video)

Posted by Nathan S. on 06/08/10 | Filed under Top Stories, Videos, DMX, Behind the Music

If there was ever a rapper whose life was begging for a "Behind the Music" it's DMX, who went from one of the biggest rappers in the game to a crack-addicted, constantly jailed afterthought as quickly as he rose to fame. In all seriousness, it's one of hip-hop's most tragic stories. The same things that made Earl Simmons a star - his emotion, his pain, his realness - ultimately destroyed him.

And if you have a tragic story, that means you get one of those ill VH1 voice-overs! I've always wanted one, maybe someday my heroin habit will be bad enough to earn me on. Fingers crossed. Here's what voiceover man has to say about Earl:

"He's one of the most intense and intimidating rappers in the game. Who became the raw and unrefined king of hip-hop. DMX was hardened to the world at an early age, first at the hands of an abusive mother, and then on the streets where he did what it took to survive. His life of crime landed him behind bars, but in the solitude of prisons DMX channeled his anger into rhymes. His aggressive style brought man and success beyond his wildest dreams...until drug addiction took DMX's life apart. His demons cost him everything, including the one person who always stood by him. Now, he reveals the savage and chocking truth behind his struggle to the top. This is DMX, the story behind the music." Yeah, that was bad ass.
